As there is so much more to discover than what this great city has to offer, I highly recommended the Nancy Chandler’s Map of Bangkok, alias “The Market Map and Much More”. The newest edition is the 27th edition, 40th Anniversary. It includes the Map and a booklet directory, your personal guide to all there is to do and see in Bangkok.
Bangkok, with all its must-see attractions, can be quite overwhelming as you trawl though travel guides and try to decide what to visit first.
This map is quirky and all the information you need is in one place and the attention to detail is amazing. It shows the most unique places to eat, drink and visit. The newest map ensuring that the content is as up-to-date as possible involves a whole team of people.
The map is double-sided and split into seven sections that include maps of Central Bangkok, Greater Bangkok, Sukhumvit Road, Chinatown, Chatuchak Market, Banglampoo (Khan San Road area) and the Central Shopping Area. The maps detail the locations of restaurants, bars, hotels, shopping malls, BTS (Skytrain) routes, MRT (Underground routes) museums, gallery and temples. The information is endless, but not overwhelming.
This is a map that will continue to be informative and guiding. Because things can change so quickly in Bangkok, regular updates are given on their website nancychandler.net
Another of my essentials is The Bangkok Guide (put together by the Australian New Zealand Women’s Group (ANZWG). It can be found at all good bookstores in Bangkok. It is the Bible for Expats living in Thailand. This Book will give you the information you need with regards to living in Bangkok. This is a must have book!
The book lists from Moving to Thailand, Health, General Service, Schools, Activities, Welfare, Shopping, Activities, and Sports etc.
I buy this magazine at the beginning of every month as I like to know what’s going on in Bangkok and have an opportunity to visit the recommended places.
Another essentials is the Bangkok101 magazine which can be found at all good bookstores in Bangkok. Whether you are visiting or living here, this magazine will give you the best idea of what’s going on in the city, where the best places are to eat and includes very interesting articles on people who live and work here.
The magazine also lists places to visit, festivals and exhibitions with maps that are referenced so you know where to find them. This magazine comes out at the beginning of every month with new recommendations. There are regular updates via their website bangkok101.com.
